anutillo was hoping for a travel date against a Permian Basin team but first they had to knock off the Burgess Mustangs who were on a streak having gotten hot late in the season. The 2-4A Champions, Canutillo, had the home court but the Mustangs were gaining confidence each week enroute to this playoff berth.
But, regardless of who got hot when; this game was for a ticket to keep playing for at least one more game.
Unless someone was shooting the lights out this was going to be a close low scoring game. And it turned out to be just that with under 10 poinst scored in each quarter. Both defenses were causing problems for the other's offense with constant hand checking, arms up in the shooters face and good inside positioning so there were few easy or quick baskets.

Canutillo had to do much of its passing beyond the arc.

With many missed shots and a few blocked shots the playoff game was favoring Canutillo at the half by the score of 17-16. And you would have thought that the Eagles would have come out pumped up for the second half. But, it was the Mustangs that took charge of the game prior to the second half jump ball.
Burgess quickly moved out to a 21-17 lead and the Eagles were completely shut out until the 3rd quarter was almost over. Then in the 4th quarter the Eagles made a run for it just as Burgess had in the 3rd to tie the game and send it into overtime.
But, the Mustangs prevailed in overtime winning 33-32 and sending the 2-4A champs home for the rest of the year.

There weren't many open shots so the Eagles let it fly but could not score a basket during the first 5-minutes of the second half.

Even in the paint the Canutillo Eagles were meeting the stiffest resistance.
