Miners on a five game winning streak with a road victory over University of Alabama at Birmingham 74-65. Derrick Caracter named C-USA Player of the Week with 20 points and 13 rebounds against University of Alabama at Birmingham.

fter last year's tragic loss in the CBI Tournament on their home court many were wondering how the team would respond this year. Well, the answer early was just fine.
The Miners opened up the season with a 5-0 run that included an away game in Las Cruces, New Mexico against their I-10 rivals the NMSU Aggies. However, the Aggies decided to return the favor and after being down by double-digits to the Miners in the Don Haskins Center the Aggies pullled out an impressive victory even as their coaah Marvin Mensies was ejected from the game in the first half.

The Miners lost tough games to Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Mississippi before upseting the Memphis Tigers 72-67 in C-USA conference play and ending the Tigers hopes for a record 65-game winning streak at home.
That was good news enough but the Miners are incorporating a bunch of new players and they are gaining cohesiveness each and every game.
The Miners defend their Don Haskins Center against U of Houston Saturday - February 3, 2010 at 7:00 PM.
