ith high school soccer already finished for the year in New Mexico affecting teams in the Upper Valley and Mesilla Valley such as Santa Teresa, Las Cruces schools and Gadsden; soccer is just heating up in Texas. So both Upper Valley and Westside schools: Anthony, Canutillo, Franklin and Coronado are all fighting the cold and rainy weather that has been a mainstay this year in the El Paso area.
The boys are doing well with recent victories: El Paso beat Andress 4-2 and both Franklin and Coronado had victories in district to move up the leader-board. Franklin won 5-1 over Eastwood to move their district record to 2-1; while Coronado beat Hanks 2-1 to keep their district record perfect at 4-0 and 9-1 overall.
The girls are out there in the cold as well. El Paso had a close 1-0 victory over Andress to move to 7-5 overall after losing the game before to Jefferson 1-0. Coronado kept their record perfect in district just as the boys at 4-0 with a 5-2 clubbing of Hanks. The Lady T-Birds are 7-1 overall. Franklin kept pace with Coronado with a district win over Eastwood 3-0 to move their perfect record to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in district 1-5A. Canutillo lost to a perenial powerhouse in Riverside 2-0.
